Learn how increasing species diversity can protect woodlands from storms, insects, diseases, and drought—strengthening long-term forest health. Discover resilient tree species suited to northern Minnesota’s soils and climate, and explore the key traits that make them ideal for replanting. This class also covers proper planting techniques, strategies to protect young trees, and simple ways to prevent damage from deer and other herbivores.
Each participant will receive a tree and protective cage to help ensure successful growth. The session includes an introduction to Climate Smart Tree Seedlings—trees grown locally with genetically diverse seed sources and assisted-migration methods to thrive in evolving conditions.
The Rebuilding Our Woodlands class will be held on Tuesday, March 31, from 5-7p at the Bemidji High School-Lumberjack Room.
