The Nuts and Bolts of Food Preservation

Class 1: Thursday, January 27, 2022 from 6:30 to 8:30 PM 

An overview of ways to safely preserve your garden produce.

The Nuts and Bolts of Food Preservation is an introductory class designed to provide participants with research-based knowledge and scientific resources on the basics of food preservation. This class is presented as an overview of the various food preservation methods and is guided by specific learning objectives, with a focus on safety. Participants will learn about the proper equipment, procedures and storage methods for boiling water canning, pressure canning, jam/jelly making, pickling, fermenting, drying and freezing techniques. 

This class is the first class of a four class series on food preservation. You can find the information on the following classes on the event calendar. 

Class 2: Thursday, February 3, 2022 from 6:30 to 8:30 PM “212 Degrees F. and Beyond: Boiling Water and Pressure Canning” - An overview of using boiling water and pressure canning to safely preserve your garden produce.

Class 3: Thursday, February 10, 2022 from 6:30 to 8:30 PM “Brine Ambition” - An overview of how to safely preserve foods by pickling and fermenting.

Class 4: Thursday, February 17, 2022 from 6:30 to 8:30 PM “Fire and Ice” - An overview of how to safely preserve foods by drying and freezing.
