Lichens can be found in almost every terrestrial habitat on Earth and while many of us may feel confident that we know a lichen when we see it, we may struggle to describe exactly what they are. Surprisingly complex for their size, lichens are important to wildlife and contribute to nutrient and water cycling. Lichens can also be used as environmental indicators.
Join us at Cedar Creek Ecosystem Science Reserve as we dive into the basics of lichens, their role in the ecosystem, and how you can be a part of scientific research in Minnesota. The workshop will include both indoor and outdoor activities.
Presenters will include University researchers, iNaturalist power users, and Minnesota Master Naturalist volunteers.
Learn more about Master Naturalist advanced training
Advanced training courses provide Master Naturalists and the public with opportunities to participate in recreational activities and learn about a new natural resource topic. Topics build on the curriculum taught in our core biome courses, but you do not need to be a Master Naturalist in order to take any of the advanced training courses.
