Houston County cake and cookie decorating judging

All 4-H youth, grades K-13 in Houston County are invited to a special, pre-fair cake and cookie decorating judging, on Saturday, April 20 from 1 to 3 p.m. in the St. Johns Lutheran School Gym. 

Please register by April 15.

Youth may register for all events in their age category. Cloverbuds may bring up to five exhibits in each category and youth grades 3 and up may bring up to four exhibits in each.

Cake/cupcake and cookie decorating

Categories:

• Traditional/cupcakes (ex: round or square cakes)
• Creative/cupcakes  (ex: shaped as a cartoon character or car or animal)
• Cookie

Each category is broken into the following age groups:

• Cloverbuds
• Grade 3-5 
• Grade 6-8 
• Grade 9+ 

Requirements

• Items must be out of the pan and frosted. 
• Items should be on a platter to show the judge.
• If during county fair, you may want youth to bring a photo to leave on display (if taking cakes home).
• Frosting and cake/cupcakes/cookies should be homemade; first layer of cookies should be flooded.
• Sheet cakes should be no larger than a ½ sheet (13”x18”.) 
• Cookies should have four cookies on a plate and be 4” in diameter or 1 cookie that is 6” in diameter.
• Cupcakes should include five Jumbo size, nine regular size, or 18 miniature size in one entry
• All parts of the cake should be edible. 

Exhibit suggestions

• Theme cakes: Birthday, wedding or other special events
• Creative cakes: Animals, cars/trucks, food, etc.   
• Traditional cakes: Traditional wedding cakes, cakes with borders, flowers, fancy tips, etc.
• Use different consistencies of frostings.

Cake decorating is now state fair eligible.
