Farm transition and estate planning - Mabel

Farm transition and estate planning workshops provide farm families with the tools and skills to develop their farm business transition and personal estate plans. These workshops have built-in time for the family to plan, discuss and set goals. 

There will be booths with community resources, such as Public Health, Veterans Office, Soil & Water Conservation District, Farm Service Agency, University of Minnesota Extension and others.

Learning objectives for the workshop:

  • Establish individual, family, retirement and business goals as the foundation to the transition process.
  • Understand farm business transition strategies and examples including business entities.
  • Understand the need for determining the financial viability of the business.
  • Understand tax issues in the transition process.
  • Identify estate planning issues and strategies and a transition and estate planning team.
