What you'll do
Make it yourself! Stand out in the crowd wearing a unique sweater or scarf. Learn the basics of knitting, crocheting, embroidery and counted cross stitch. Learn various patterns or create your own designs. Once you master the basics, host a knitting party or join a knitting club.

Fairs & exhibits

- Make simple repairs using only needle and thread
- Create a pillow, quilt, comforter, curtains or other soft furnishing
- Make a video, portfolio, poster, slide presentation or notebook of your needle art
- How is yarn made? What are the different types of fibers and yarn? Show what you know in a poster or other visual display
- Make a notebook of knitting or crochet stitch swatches
- What's knitting gauge? How is it measured? Make a video or poster explaining what you know about gauge
- Create a display showing embroidery stitches, naming each stitch

Future study and careers
You could study apparel design at the University of Minnesota.
Crafters and fine artists make art from textiles and other materials. Fashion designers create original clothing.
