Five Cooking Matters Curriculum Books fanned out on table. A Cooking Matters reusable grocery bag, cutting board, and apron are surrounding the books.

What is Cooking Matters Minnesota?

Cooking Matters is a cooking-based, nutrition education program that empowers people to make the best use of their food resources. Cooking Matters connects kids in need with nutritious food and teaches how to cook healthy, affordable meals. Participants learn to shop for and cook healthy meals on a limited budget.

Cooking Matters Minnesota combines the resources of the national organization with University of Minnesota Extension’s Health and Nutrition program to deliver nutrition education at local host sites with the help of volunteers. University of Minnesota Extension and Share our Strength have partnered since 2009 to provide this program.

Why volunteer?

Cooking Matters Minnesota combines Extension’s expertise in nutrition with local chefs and other volunteers. Volunteers are a key part of a successful program. They teach Minnesota families how to create healthy, delicious meals on a limited budget. Participants learn how to grocery shop, make healthy choices and cook food their family will want to eat.
