In northwest and west central Minnesota, 32 participants graduated from the Red River Valley Emerging Leadership Program (ELP). The program builds skills in individuals while creating and sustaining a network of community leaders focusing on rural issues.
Jody Horntvedt is the lead educator for the program. She commented, “I was impressed by the participants’ commitment to connecting via technology to maximize their opportunities for learning during the pandemic.”
The ELP program was created in 1985. Over 1,200 alumni live and work across the region, many of whom are now serving local boards, businesses, non-profit organizations, committees and government.
Extension provides alumni programming to all graduates of Extension leadership programs. Christy Kallevig, alumni program leader, notes that this alumni network seeks to create mutual benefit. "Leaders in Minnesota's communities are making a difference, and we want to continue to be there to provide education and support. More importantly, these community leaders can be there for each other, sharing ideas and solving problems together."
